Suffolk Design
Suffolk Design is an initiative to ensure the quality of new buildings, public spaces and neighbourhoods throughout the county meets today’s needs and tomorrow’s challenges.
What is Suffolk Design ?
New homes, workplaces, schools and infrastructure are needed to meet current and future population growth and demographic change.
We want to make sure that new developments in the county contribute to Suffolk’s unique identity and ensure it remains the attractive and successful place we all love.

11-step Suffolk Design Management Process (SDMP)
11 step design management process setting out the relationships and actions needed to achieve improved quality of design and development within Suffolk. The SDMP sets out to improve engagement throughout the development process through key involvement of Local Authority, Applicant and community.

Case Studies/Previous Research
A number of officer, developer, architect and stakeholder events have been held since 2019 including study tours, conferences, masterclasses and roundtables.
These well-attended events have brought together partners to explore design issues and develop consisent approaches.

Suffolk Design: Streets Guide
The Streets Guide is a guidance document designed to assist the delivery of well-designed places in line with the National Design Guide as well as the National Model Design Code. The Streets Guide will be used by Suffolk County Council’s highway engineers, drainage engineers and Public Rights of Way officers in responding to planning applications.
